Lisa M. Ackerson- Lester, 63, of Norwich passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 24, 2018, at the Wilson Regional Medical Center of Johnson City following a battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Lisa was born on March 12, 1954 in Johnson City the daughter of Kenneth and Janice (Fuller) Ackerson. She grew up in the small town of Guilford where she attended and graduated from the Guilford school. Following her graduation Lisa pursued a career in the nursing field where she earned a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Following her graduation from nursing school she was employed by Binghamton General Hospital and later by Wilson Hospital. She continued in the nursing profession for 17 years before relocating to the Norwich area where she made her home since the spring of 1998 where she met Albert F. Lester whom she married July 12, 2008.
Lisa continued her working career with Combined Life Ins. Co. until she retired in 2017. Wherever she worked, Lisa was known as the lady with a big smile for everyone and was loved by all. Her family and friends were very special to her. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her family and enjoyed playing with her dogs “fur kids” Jack and Cody.
In her leisure time she loved digging and working in her flower garden, fishing, camping with her family and just spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She LOVED to go swimming in Guilford Lake, going out to eat, traveling and experiencing new things. Lisa enjoyed the ocean and in the New England states found enjoyment looking at the lighthouses. Cooking was another specialty of Lisa’s and she especially enjoyed cooking for the holidays. In her working career she liked to look nice and was always dressed perfectly from her hair, clothing, shoes and jewelry.
Lisa was a musical inspiration for her “Huban Al”. She also had a special place in her heart for Rosemary, Hawk, Patty, Stella, the Oxford Seniors and good friend Sharon Lester who supported her thru the journey.
Lisa is survived by her husband Albert of Norwich, son Douglas Ackerson and wife Kari-Mihalko Ackerson and their children Cameron, Connor, Christopher and Olivia, youngest son Matthew Ackerson and girlfriend Michelle-Lee VanDee and their daughter Mackenzie, step-children Crystal Lester and fiancé Joe of Sidney, Albert Lester, Jr. of Norwich and Marcy LePine and husband Paul of Niagara Falls. Also surviving are her grandchildren Travis, Jacob, Joshua, Brendon and Brayden Lester, Tyler Stockfield, and Nathan and Allyssa LePine, nephew Lucas Coddington and wife Sarah and their 3 children of Sidney.
Family and friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home, Norwich on Thursday, February 1, from 5-7 pm which will be followed by a memorial service at 7pm. The Rev. Rachel Morse, Pastor of the Broad St. United Methodist Church will officiate.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will also be held in the spring.
