Gerald A. Seifert, 67, of County Rd. 34, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 at his home.
He was born May 17, 1950 in New Berlin, a son of Edward and Dorothy Foster Seifert. Gerald was fortunate to have a very special second family, Charles and Margaret Foster of Smyrna who took him and his siblings in to live with them after the death of their parents. He attended Sherburne school and left after winning the NYS championship for wrestling in 1968. He went to Ames, Iowa for his senior year in 1969, also winning the state championship in wrestling there as well. He returned home to New York and worked for Simmonds Precision for 20 years, and then for the Raymond Corp. until retiring in 2009. Gerald married Joyce Stone in 1981. She predeceased him on April 3, 2013.
Gerald was a member of the Columbus Community Church.
He is survived by the apple of his eye, his granddaughter, Gabrielle Ingraham; two brothers, Thomas and Charles Seifert; cousin, Anita Foster, her husband, Ron Range, and their daughters, Gianna and Jordan; and cousin, Wayne Foster; He was predeceased by his parents; his adoptive parents, Charles and Margaret Foster; his daughter, Jennifer Seifert; and two sisters, Sandy Mathy and Bonnie Foster Church
At Gerald’s request, services and interment in the Willcox Cemetery, Smyrna, will be private at the convenience of his family.
Contributions in his memory may be made to a trust fund for his granddaughter, Gabrielle Ingraham, c/o NBT Bank, attn: Jackie Brunschmid, PO Box 351, Norwich, NY 13815-0351.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, NY.
