Dolores M. (Barnhart) Loomis, 78, of McDonough, NY, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018, at the Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, NY, while surrounded by her family.

Dolores was born in Massena, NY, on June 7, 1939, the daughter of the late John and Freda Solomon Barnhart. She was born and raised on the Mohawk Indian Reservation and was extremely proud of her Mohawk heritage.

She, along with her husband, Bill, were the former owners of Bill’s Little Bar, McDonough, until her retirement in 2009 and, prior to that, had owned the Balsam Inn, E. Pharsalia, for ten years. She had also worked at Tinelli’s Diner, Smith-Corona, and Buckbee Mears. She was also a member of the McDonough American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Kevin (Chrystal) Loomis of McDonough and Darlene (Mark) Stap, of DeRuyter. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Dustin, William, Bryant, and Nick Loomis, Carla Woods, and Alexis and Danny McGinnis; her brothers, Dale Barnhart of Geneva, and Tom Barnhart of Cortland; her sisters, Eleanor (Darrel) Rivers of Batavia, Mona (Jim) Byrnes of Blodgett Mills, and Lana (Ted) Schumacher of Virgil; brothers-in-law, Dale (Terena) Loomis of Cincinnatus and Lester Blackman of Pharsalia; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Loomis, in 1991; a brother, Jack Barnhart; a sister, Sally Bonham; and sisters-in-law, Juanita Crandall and Yvonne “Bonnie” Blackman.

A memorial service will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor George Carruth officiating.

The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the start of the service at 6:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Dolores may be made to the Cincinnatus Emergency Squad, c/o Elaine Oros, 5771 McFarlane Road, Cincinnatus, NY 13040.
