OXFORD – Mabel S. Barber, 85, of Oxford, passed away on Dec. 4, 2009 at her home.
She was born on July 24, 1924 in Greenwood, Del., a daughter of the late Adam and Bertha (Vargo) Seiler. On Aug. 28, 1948 she married Clair Barber, Sr., who passed away on May 16, 1996.
She is survived by her children, Sandra and Jack Jones of Rochester, Clair Barber Jr. of Oxford, Denise and Ken Paul of Oxford, Debbie Bouchard of Rochester, and Brenda and Joseph Farley of Middle Village; her brother in law, Harold Meister of Palatka, Fla.; her grandchildren, Bryanne Jones and Agnum Cole, Kristin Jones, Jeramie Barber, Brooke and Greg Donohue, Jaret and Rachel Paul, Jenna Paul, Ethan Paul, Joey Farley, Ryan Bouchard, Jordan Bouchard, Brett Bouchard, and Emma Bouchard; her great grandchildren, Jaiden Donohue, Meredith Cole, Jacob Cole, Maya Paul, and Madison Paul. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her brothers, Charles, Frank, John and her sisters, Helen Root and Mildred Meister.
Mabel graduated from Oxford Academy and Central School, where she was salutatorian of her class. She retired after serving as secretary to the High School Principal at Oxford Academy for over 25 years. She was a stamp collector for most of her life and also collected coins. In recent years she enjoyed watching sports on ESPN.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford with the Rev. Allen Lang, pastor of the United Church of Oxford officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
