NORWICH – Edwin M. Silvey, 98, of Norwich, passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, in the Gilmour Health Care Facility, where he currently made his home.
Born in Afton in November of 1911, Edwin was the son of Rexford and Myra Lum Silvey. He attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in Yaleville, and was a farmer all of his life, operating his own farm on High Bridge Road in Rockdale for over 25 years and working for a time on the Sid Johnson farm. He was a member of the Smithville Grange for over 60 years. Following his retirement from farming, Edwin lived in Oxford for 11 years, resided for a time in Florida, and was a Norwich resident for the last 13-14 years.
Edwin is survived by his sister, Marietta Lanfair of Norwich, and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his first wife, Florence Silvey; his second wife, Mary Silvey; by his sisters, Stella Miller and Edna Simpson; and by his brothers, Frank and Charles Silvey.
Funeral and committal services for Edwin will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. John Martin, pastor of the Oxford United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Sand Hill Cemetery of Wells Bridge.
