David grew up on a dairy farm in Sherburne Four Corners and at the age of 16 he bought his first truck to pick up area milk from local farmers and delivered the cans to Honiker’s Milk Station at Sherburne Four Corners. David met his first wife, Huldah Bliss during this time and they married Sept. 7, 1946.

As the boys grew, they were interested in cows, their care, and the running of the farm; David gave them each a cow to raise, care for, working, learning, earning and saving enough over the years to put themselves through College. David’s wife passed away suddenly in 1969 from a massive stroke.

David was the assessor for the town of Plymouth for several years when he met Catherine Walker Yacono at the Chenango County Tax Office where she worked typing up all the towns property changes for the yearly tax books.

David accepted Catherine’s 4 yr. old daughter, Julie, and they were married October 15, 1971, and they lived on the farm. Ralph joined his father on the farm after collage in 1967.

Jim joined them in 1971. David sold the farm to his sons, Ralph and Jim in 1975. He was Plymouth Highway Supervisor from 1972 to 1974.

David and Kate bought a house on King Settlement Road in Norwich in 1982. David worked for Victory Markets as a night truck mechanic and drove Norwich school bus days until he had the opportunity to go to California and work on a horse ranch as Maintenance Foreman for a year.

David retired in 1992 and he and Kate bought a house in Floyd, Virginia where they lived for 12 years; returning to Sherburne in 2005 due to David’s health and wanting to be close to family. David will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, friend and one who could fix anything.
