Olive Aldrich Sturges, 91, of Norwich passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Olive was born on February 6, 1927 in McDonough the daughter of Spencer and Hazel (Pike) Aldrich. She grew up in the McDonough area where she attended the local school. She had also attended the Oxford Academy School from which she graduated in 1943. Following her graduation she gained employment with the Norwich Pharmacal Co. where she worked from 1943 until 1949. It was at this point she decided to stay home and care for her children. In 1958 Olive decided to go back to work and gained employment with the Carl Payne Insurance Agency until June of 1983. She then went to work for the Chenango Mutual Insurance Company from May of 1984 until her retirement in March of 1992.
Olive was a long time and active member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich. She was a member of the Altar Guild and the Women’s ECW. In addition she was an active volunteer for many local organizations as well as a member of the Home Bureau.
On May 24, 1947 in McDonough she married Lyle Sturges who passed away February 18, 1985.
Olive is survived by her son William (Elizabeth) Sturges of Chula Vista, CA, her daughter Nancy Lee (William) Zlobik of Berlin, NJ, her siblings Irma Davis of OR, Rena Grayson of Norwich, Eleanor (Al) Mirabito of Norwich and Elmer (Adelaide) Aldrich of Oxford. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband Lyle, Olive was predeceased by her siblings Florence Genung, Ruth Mrosz, Ray Aldrich, and Harry Aldrich.
A funeral service for Olive will be held on Monday, August 20, at 11:00 am from the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich. The Rev. Steve White, Rector, will officiate. Interment will be in the East Pharsalia Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 pm.
