Barbara Alice Burr Beardsley Peterson


Barbara Alice Burr Beardsley Peterson of Westminster, Colorado, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Aug. 12. She was 91 years old.

Barbara was born and raised in Norwich, New York. Her parents were Vernon and Gertrude Burr. She had two brothers, Hank and Don, who predeceased her.

She was graduated from Norwich High School in 1945. She was a popular cheerleader and was active in all of the music programs at the school, including the Glee Club and Drama Club.

She was a winner of the Weiler-Reisberg music award, was a member of the National Honor Society and served as a lifeguard.

Barbara was widowed twice. Once with Richard Beardsley and later with Lynn “Pete” Peterson. Both Richard and Pete were also from Norwich and attended Norwich High School.

After graduation, she worked for 47 years as an executive secretary. Since her retirement, she was an active volunteer. She was a Steven’s Ministry Caregiver, a Hospice Volunteer and was active in the various communities where she lived.

She was the honored recipient of the President’s Council on Care and Serving award for over 4,000 hours of service in two years. Barbara also taught a Bible study group for many years.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Beardsley; son, Robert Beardsley, his wife, Dede, their two children and five grandchildren, all of Colorado.

She had a long life filled with love. Her family and friends will miss her tremendously, but they know she is at peace and that her spirit will live on in their hearts.

No formal services will be held to mark Barbara’s passing in Colorado.

A small, informal gravesite remembrance will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Norwich, N.Y., on Sept. 25, 2018, at 11:00 a.m.
Local arrangements have been entrusted to R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
