Margaret A. “Peggy” Asma, 55, of Norwich passed away Friday morning, October 12, 2018, at the Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.
A person often meets their destiny in the road they took to avoid it.
Peggy believed in living life to the fullest and during her 5 year fight with cancer she stepped it up a notch.
Never a day went by where Peggy wasn’t doing something she loved. Could have been the time spent with Ryan, Matt and Beef hiking on a new trail as often as possible or maybe card night and pizza party with the Farham 4. Rarely would you find a weekend that she wasn’t off on some adventure or concert with Matt and Bob. Dancing is not optional.
Could have been time spent at her job as a Preventive Services Caseworker for the Family Intervention Program at Liberty Resources, and her amazing boss Kristin.
With all of this, and more, Peggy believed in giving back and paying-it-forward. Could be making an anonymous donation to a cause, volunteering at the Blues Fest or Colorscape, buying a gift card for the waving lady, coordinating the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign in Norwich or possibly all of the other things she did to make the world a better place.
Peggy did treasure her privacy and personal space. If you got the chance to know her well you understand the true giving and loving individual she was.
Peggy had a few wishes; 1. Make an anonymous donation to your favorite cause. If you don’t have one, find one.
2. Have a party not a memorial. She was very clear on this one. Date and location yet to be determined. Expect outdoors in hot weather and a bonfire.
3. Donate her body to medical science. On 10/13 she arrived at the Upstate Medical University Anatomical Gift Program. Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, beer in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “Woo Hoo What A Ride.”
Peggy is survived by her husband Matt, her brother Michael and good friend Bob VanPelt all of Norwich.
Peggy was predeceased by her parents Louis and Margaret (Hipple) Maiurano.
Arrangements are with the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.
