Harry Edgar Hatton


Harry Edgar Hatton, II of Oxford, passed away on Sunday October 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Afton, NY on December 3, 1923 to the late Harry and Hazel Hatton. In addition to his parents, Harry was predeceased by his son, Michael Hatton; his son in law, Timothy O’Reilly; and his siblings. Survivors include his longtime companion, Valerie Hughes and her family; his daughters, Gail and Michael Place, Dianne O’Reilly, and Nancy and Daniel Wells; his grandchildren, Jessica Place and Maurie, Kevin and Suzy Place, April and Kevin Green, Jennifer and James Anderson, Joshua Wells and Sarah, Aaron and Michele Wells, Mike and Alison Hatton, Desiree Hatton, and Dawnette Hatton; 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Harry served his country in the US Army being honorably discharged in 1945.

After his discharge, Harry went to work for Bendix Corporation and also performed auto body repair for Ed Jones Garage and Menard’s Garage, and also spent 22 years as a machinist at IBM until his retirement. Harry was a loving family man, enjoying the time spent with them.

He enjoyed reading, attending sports events, hunting and fishing. He volunteered for several years with Hospice of Chenango County and was a longtime member of American Legion Fort Hill Post 376 in Oxford.

A private graveside service for Harry will take place at the discretion of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Harry’s memory may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St. Norwich, NY 13815. Arrangements have been entrusted to R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
