Ruth H. Bliss, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Valley View Manor Nursing Home after a long illness.

She was born on February 4, 1930 in Rochester, NY the daughter of the late Lindsay and Idella (Smith) Hill.

Ruth was a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy and earned her Master’s Degree in education from Syracuse University.

Following her education she married Donald Bliss and made her home in Unadilla. Soon thereafter she began a 41 year career as a 9-12 grade Social Studies teacher in Unadilla, Otego and Laurens.

Ruth was the family baker, jam and pickle maker, vegetable canner, seamstress, sewed her own wedding dress and almost all of her clothing and knitter.

She made many pieces of clothing for family and friends. She was an avid reader and in her retirement traveled extensively around the USA in her RV where she was the happiest in a rural setting.

Ruth was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and teacher. She was predeceased by her brother Robert in2017 and her sister Dorothy in 2016.

Ruth is survived by her husband Donald Bliss, daughter Tina Bliss and husband Tim of New York City, son Douglas Bliss and wife Carol of Oneonta, grandchildren Julie and husband Joe, Erin and Megan, great grandchildren Brooke, Kaleb, Kolton and Dylan. Also surviving are nephews John Emblidge and wife Cecelia of Waterford, CT, Rob Emblidge and wife Lisa of Richmond, VA.

A graveside service for Ruth will be held on Saturday, October 27, at 10:00 am from the Evergreen Cemetery on Poplar Hill Road One in the Town of Sidney.
