Kevin Monroe
SOUTH PLYMOUTH – Kevin J. Monroe, 47, of South Plymouth, passed away early Friday morning. Dec. 18, 2009, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital, with his family around him. Definitely a fighter who never gave up, Kevin fought a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Norwich in May of 1962, Kevin was the son of Llewellyn and Marie Tucker Monroe. He attended Norwich High School. Kevin loved wrestling, was a big fan of Jeff Gordon, Nascar 24; and he loved horses. He also loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. His biggest enjoyment and favorite place to be was his hunting camp that he and his brothers and friends built. Truly a jack-of-all-trades, Kevin had worked on several dairy farms, worked construction, and was employed by K5 Burl’s Truck Repair. In recent years he was a self-employed logger.
On Nov. 21, 1998, Kevin married Paula McMasters, who survives. Kevin is survived by four children: Jessica Monroe and companion Ray Mason of North Carolina, Joshua M. Monroe of North Carolina, Ethan Monroe of South Plymouth, and Connor Monroe of Cincinnatus; and his step-daughter, Chelsie Stevens of South Otselic. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Elise, A’Mya, Rhiley, and Liley. Kevin is survived by four brothers and their wives: Ward and Joyce Monroe of Norwich, and Bruce and Kathy Monroe, Randy and Penny Monroe, and Jeff and Kim Monroe, all of Plymouth; and three sisters and their husbands: JoAnn and Sid Cunningham of Masonville, Margie Hackett and companion Steve Youngs of Plymouth, and Ruth Ann and David Marks of Plymouth. Kevin is survived by nephews and nieces: Brooks, Eva, Cher, April, Beth, Matt, Cassandra, Michael, Brittany, Nathan, Jason, Sarah, Jo Jo, Danny, Kyle, Kara, Lindsey, Katelyn, and Cole; by great nephews, nieces, and cousins; and his aunt, Mary Burlingame. Kevin was predeceased by his father and mother, Llewellyn and Marie Monroe; his brother, Steven Monroe; his sister, Beverly Knapp, and his niece, Lisa Knapp.
Private funeral services for Kevin were held on Sunday, Dec. 20, from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. James Moore, Pastor of the North Pharsalia Bible Church officiated. A gathering of Kevin’s family and friends will be held on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at the Plymouth Fire House from 2-6 p.m. All are welcome.
Those wishing to remember Kevin with a memorial contribution are asked to consider either Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815; or the Plymouth Fire Dept., Plymouth, NY 13832.
