NORWICH – Karen L. Alger, 51, life-long Norwich resident, passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, in the Wilson Regional Hospital in Johnson City.
The daughter of Kenneth and Jean Cooper Alger, Karen was born in Norwich in December of 1958 and was a 1976 graduate of the Norwich High School. Early in her working years, she was employed by Bennett Ireland and the Norwich Shoe Company, but her longest and last job was for 30 years as a production worker for Simmonds Precision and its successors, currently Unison. A quiet and private person, Karen was the #1 fan of the New York Giants and the New York Mets.
Karen is survived by her mother, Jean Lingenfelter of Norwich; by her sisters: Linda Boyce and husband David of Liberty, Kim Boulant and husband Shawn of West Sand Lake, and Kaye Nagel and husband Bill of Warner Robins, Ga.; and by her brothers: John Lingenfelter of Norwich, Kenneth Alger and wife Kerri of Salt Lake City, and Kevin Alger and wife Susan of Rome. Also surviving are nieces and nephews: Nathaniel and Hannah Alger, Kyle Alger, Olivia and Wyatt Alger.
At Karen’s request, memorial services will be private for her family only. Those wishing to remember Karen with a memorial contribution are asked to consider the Chenango County SPCA, 6160 County Road 32, Norwich, NY 13815; or the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790.
