OXFORD – Margaret E. Hinckley, 86, of Oxford, passed away on Dec. 24, 2009 at Gilmour Health Care Facility.
She was born on Dec. 6, 1923 in Norwich a daughter of the late Homer and Marjorie (Owens) Browning. In 1946, she married Robert E. Hinckley, who died on July 3, 2004.
She is survived by her children, Roger and Mary Hinckley of Hackettstown, N.J., Terry Hinckley of Norwich, Judith Hicks, Mary and Jerry DeMuth, and Barbara and Lane Boyce all of Oxford. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive. She is also survived by several foster children, including Jeannette Jones.
Margaret attended school in a one room school in Plymouth and graduated from Norwich High School. She was a long time member and served in several offices of the United Church of Oxford. She and her husband owned the Corner Shoppe in Oxford for 10 years. She was a secretary for Stratton and Monaco in Oxford for several years. She was a leader for 4-H in Oxford and well as a leader for both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was a member of the Willing Hands Club. She cared for several foster children through the Chenango County Children’s Division.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford.
