Catherine Rotundo

NORWICH – Catherine M. “Kate” Rotundo, 90, of Sharon Drive, passed away courageously on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Norwich on May 14, 1919, Catherine was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Favaloro) Paino. She graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1937 and then worked at Scintilla during World War II. Kate also worked at NYSEG and for several years at DiStefano’s Grocery on East Main Street before raising her family of five including two sets of twins. She then worked at the home office of Victory Markets in their payroll division until her retirement.
Catherine was a lifelong member of St. Bartholomew’s Church and a longtime member of the Ave Maria Guild. She helped the church in many of its functions including the annual Spaghetti Supper and holiday bake sales. For over twenty years she was the person who organized the offertory presenters at weekend masses. Kate was also a member of the Ladies of Charity and volunteered for many other organizations.
Kate’s sweet spirit made her loved by everyone who knew her.  During her leisure time she enjoyed golf and bowling as well as ceramics and knitting. Her green thumb filler her house with plants.  From croquet to pinochle, Kate was also an enthusiastic game player.
Kate’s greatest joy was her family. On May 11, 1946, in St. Bartholomew’s Church, she married James A. Rotundo, who survives.  She is also survived by her children and their spouses, Mary Jane and Tom Mazzeo, of Medford, Long Island, Jeannie and Marty Flanagan, of Scotia, Kathy and Kurt Pelton, of Sloansville, NY and Jimmy and Sandy Rotunno, of Dewitt; five grandchildren, Nathaniel Pelton and his wife, Becky, Rebecca Pelton, Kristin Brown and her husband, Adam, Lauren Mazzeo and Joey Rotunno and two great grandsons, Harrison and Lucas Brown. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph Rotundo and a brother, Frank Paino.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Kate will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 22 at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Members of the Ave Maria Guild will recite the Rosary at 3:30 p.m. Burial will take place in the spring in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Bartholomew’s Church.
Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the Wilson Funeral Home website at:  www.wilsonfh.com.
