Charles Demarais


SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Charles P. Demarais, 87, of South New Berlin, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010 at his home.
Charles was born in Queens in March of 1922, the son of Charles and Gertrude Miller Demarais. He grew up in New York City where he attended and graduated from the Jamacia Vocational School. On Oct. 19, 1943 in Flushing, he married Cora Muth Demarais, who passed away April 13, 2004. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the 8th Air Force. Charles was employed for many years by the New York City Sanitation Dept. where he worked as a mechanic retiring at the age of 55. In 1990, Charles and his wife moved to the South New Berlin area, where he continued to make his home following her death. While living in South New Berlin, he had attended the First Baptist Church of South New Berlin and the Christ Lutheran Church of Norwich.
Charles is survived by his children, William Demarais Sr. and his wife Carol of Morris and Gail Orlando and her husband Robert of Stamford, Conn. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Suzanne Demarais of Vermont, William Demarais Jr. and his wife Jennie of Morris and Lisa and Daniel Orlando of Connecticut, and his great grandchildren Avery and Autumn Demarias, along with several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Cora, Charles was predeceased by his brother, John.
Funeral services for Charles were held today, Monday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Barry Davis, pastor of the First Baptist Church of South New Berlin and the Rev. Tom Olson, pastor of the Christ Lutheran Church of Norwich, officiated. Interment with full military rites will be at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery of Whitestore.
Friends called at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
