OXFORD – Albert S. Hodack, 87, formerly of Johnson City and Norwich, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 at the New York State Veterans’ Home.
He was born Sept. 12, 1922 in Brooklyn, a son of Stanley and Julianna Walsh Hodack. Growing up in Johnson City, he received his education in local schools. He was a World War II Honoree, who served as a forward observer with the US Army 27th Div., 249th Field Artillery in the Pacific Theater of Operations on Guam, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. On May 19, 1945, Albert married Eloise Harbst, who predeceased him in 1998. Mr. Hodack was employed at the Norwich Upholstery Shop for many years. Sharing his skills, he taught upholstery at BOCES, and was a judo instructor. He was also an appliance sales associate at Montgomery Ward in Norwich and Johnson City until his retirement. Albert’s favorite hobbies included fishing, hunting and archery.
He was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church in Norwich.
Surviving are his children: Daniel and Kathleen Hodack of Susquehanna, Pa.; Bonita Albright of Durham, N.C.; Albert, Jr. and Jeanne Hodack of Norwich; Raymond Hodack of Binghamton; Cynthia and Edward LaCorte of Sherburne; fourteen grandchildren, Dianne (Eric) Schwartz, Daniel Hodack, Jr., Denise (Jeff) Medlar, Donald Hodack and Christa Radcliffe, David (Angela) Hodack, Kari Hodack and Josh Hawkins, David Stevenson II, Stephanie Lamkin, Kelly Albright and Marc Rosebeck, Jeremiah Hodack, Elijah Hodack; Jarred Hodack, Alexander LaCorte and Kelly LaCorte; and nine great-grandchildren, Owen, Daniel, Karli, Benjamin, Emily, Jacob, Jasmine, Ashley and Ashton. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Bradford Albright.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service.
