NORWICH – James Howard Proskine, 62, of DeLeon Springs, Fla., passed from this life Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010.
Jim was a 30-year resident of Deleon Springs, where he owned and managed a variety of properties in downtown Deland. Jim was a long time resident of Norwich, where he grew up and a lifelong farmer and cattleman who still owned his dairy farm in Norwich.
Jim was born on Aug. 17, 1947 in Sidney, to the late John Constant and Alma Murray Proskine. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 37 years, Regenia Hampton Proskine; his son, Elton James Proskine and wife, Bettsie of Norwich, and two grandchildren, Paige Hampton Proskine and Preston James Proskine. He is survived by six siblings; Edna Baseden and husband Wayne of Beaverton, Ore., Thomas Proskine and wife Kathy of South New Berlin, Marie Pearson of Norwich, Philip Proskine and wife Lisa of Sherburne, Connie Halberg and husband David of Norwich and John Proskine Jr.
Donations in his memory may be made to your local Future Farmers of America Chapter to honor Jim’s respect for agriculture and belief in young people.
There will be a celebration of his life at 1 p.m. Friday at the Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home of DeLand. Viewing will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
A memorial service in his honor is planned in March for Norwich.
