William Edsall Hodges, of Sherburne NY, passed away Saturday July 10, 2021. He was born in Sherburne, on February 25, 1938 to Donald K. Hodges and Irene Reynolds Hodges.
Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Josephine Richardson Hodges, his children Edsall (Suzanne), Karen Parker (Bob) and Gilbert (Kimberly); his grandchildren, Lindsay, Cole and Emma Hodges, Jedidiah Parker and Brice Hodges. Also surviving are his sisters Carolyn Dicer (Gary), Donna Kunkel and Renie Humphrey as well as several nieces and nephews.
Bill graduated from Sherburne High School in 1956 and served in the U.S. Army before continuing his education at Broome Tech and Morrisville for Electrical Engineering. He worked in Binghamton for several years where he met Josephine before returning to Sherburne to join his father at Hodges’ Department Store in 1965 until it closed in 1985. Bill was employed by Colgate University from 1984 until he retired in 2000.
Bill is a lifetime member of the Sherburne Fire Department and was a member of the Sherburne Emergency Squad where helping the people in his community was very important to him. He was also a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany and Sherburne Historical Society. He loved his Family, Friends and all things Sherburne.
There will be no calling hours or funeral. A private graveside service will be held.
