Joanne Goettel, 87, of Brewerton, passed away with her family by her side on November 5, 2021. She was born on August 12, 1934 in Otselic, NY to the late George and the late Sylvia (Brooks) Swayze. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Ormonde, in 2007; sisters, Jean LaMora and Joyce Douglas; and her brother, Ernest Swayze.
Joanne graduated from East Syracuse Minoa High School in 1952. She married Ormonde in 1955. Joanne worked as a Bookkeeper for Proctor & Gamble in her early years and then decided she wanted to stay home and raise her children. She enjoyed Bowling where she was the secretary and coach for the Youth Bowling League. She enjoyed fishing and traveling with her family. Joanne loved being at her camp in Otselic, her hometown.
Joanne is survived by her children, James (Sandi) Goettel, Timothy Goettel, Linda Goettel, Gregory (Becky Kelly) Goettel, and Patrick Goettel; grandson, Christopher Goettel; great grandson, Kollin Goettel; sisters, Janet (Stanley) Harrington, Judy (Bob) Baker, and Jill (Wayne Weiss) Swayze; brother, Roger (Joyce) Swayze; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Thursday from 4-6 pm at Traub Funeral Home, Central Square. A Graveside Service will take place on Friday at 11 am at Maple Grove Cemetery, Route 26, South Otselic, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of CNY or The Cancer Society in Joanne’s honor.
