NORWICH – Garnet Rakestraw, 89, of Norwich and formerly of the Greene area, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 14, 2010 in the Valley View Manor Nursing Home where she had made her home for the past several years.
Born in Oct. of 1920 in Sayre, Pa., Garnet was the daughter of Robert and Norgene Chamberlin Rakestraw. A very proud and independent lady, Garnet spent the early years of her life in the Rome State School. Her independence and great spirit in those years earned her the respect of her friends. She became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints both in Greene and Norwich.
Garnet is survived by her many friends from the congregation as well as the Greene and Norwich communities.
Funeral services for Garnet will be held on Monday, March 22, at 10 a.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home with Karlton Hadlock, Branch President, presiding. There will no calling hours. Interment will be with her parents in the Wysox Cemetery in Towanda, Pa.
