Joyce Anderson

NORWICH – Joyce Ann Currie Anderson peacefully passed into new life on Saturday night, March 27, 2010. Friends and family surrounded her in prayer these last four weeks spent at Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, Chase Memorial Nursing Home, New Berlin and finally Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.
Born in Preble on Memorial Day, May 30, 1930, Joyce was the daughter of William Henry Currie and Estella Jeannette Clark Currie. She graduated from Morrisville Ag & Tech in May of 1950 and married Richard Leslie Anderson on June 17, 1950.
Joyce worked in food service at South New Berlin Central School, Cortland, Norwich and Syracuse Hospitals. She sowed seeds of friendship wherever she went. Younger co-workers called her “Mom.”  Brown bread, pies, rolls and maple products were her specialties. Joyce and Richard farmed the Anderson homestead and carried on the Anderson Farms maple syrup and dairy tradition.
She was a member of the South New Berlin First Baptist Church, Farm Bureau, Grange, Cooperative Extension Home Bureau and was a 4-H leader. She encouraged her children in planting seeds of love and forgiveness, love of music, civic responsibility and taking time to get together with family and friends for god food and fun.
Richard passed away in February 1990. Joyce helped her mom, Estella, stay in her home as long as possible. Eventually, she sold her Norwich home and purchased Estella’s. The Preble Congregational UCC Church, where she was married, became her home church again. Red Hats, her beloved classmates from high school and being involved with family and friends kept her busy.
Joyce is survived by four children; Sandra (Herbert) Gregory, Daniel (Donna M.) Anderson, Cynthia Ardron Anderson and David (Donna J.) Anderson; six grandchildren, James (Deb) Turner, Heather (James) Cummings, Gregory Ardron, Jordan Wood, Sarah Wilson and Brooke Anderson; ten great-grandchildren, Tyler, Keagan and Kenzie Turner, Kolbie and Mason Cummings, Abigail and Gabrielle Jansen, Morgan and Miranda Jump and Joseph DeShaw; two brothers, Louis (Linda) Currie of Rochester, and Joseph (Nancy) Currie of Sebring, Florida; sisters-in-law, Elinor Hudson Currie, Laura Cates Currie and Sandy Couch. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, husband Richard, a sister, Jean Currie Wood and brothers, William, Calvin and John Currie.
Memorial services for Joyce will be held at 3 p.m. on April 11 at the First Baptist Church in South New Berlin and at 2 p.m. on April 18 in the Preble Congregational UCC Church in Preble. Friends are invited to call at those churches one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you plant a tree, shrub or flowers and go on a picnic. Contributions may be made to the South New Berlin First Baptist Church or to the Preble Congregational UCC Church or to Pathfinder Lodge in Cooperstown, c/o Beulah Burch, 5590 State Hwy. 23, Norwich, NY 13815.
The arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the funeral home website at:  www.wilsonfh.com.
