Hon. Irad S. Ingraham was born to the late Dr. Hollis and Helena Ingraham in Boston, MA on May 23, 1937. He passed away suddenly on July 16, 2022. Irad was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School, Hamilton College, and Albany Law School. He was a partner in the law firm of Honeywell & Ingraham. In 1970, Irad was elected Chenango County District Attorney. In 1975, he was elected Chenango County Court Judge, and in 1984 was elected to the New York State Supreme Court, Sixth Judicial District. Later in life he studied painting at the Art Student’s League in New York City.
Though his subject matter varied, Irad specialized in portraits, which hang in many courthouses, office buildings, and private homes.
Throughout his lifetime he served on the boards of several organizations; Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich YMCA, New Berlin Library, Chenango County Council of the Arts, Valley Ridge CIT, Preferred Mutual Insurance Company, and condo and homeowners associations in Florida and New York.
Irad is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Janet (Houghton), sons John H. Ingraham (Dena), Richard H. Ingraham (Margaret), and daughter Laurel A. Fitzmaurice (Paul). Grandchildren Brynlee, Fischer, Hannah, Stephanie (Josh), Heather, Thomas, Mary, Brittany, Sydney and Sean.
