Alma “Bridget” Fowlston
Alma “Bridget” Fowlston, 92 of Oxford and Myrtle Beach passed away on August 25, 2022 at Norwich Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born on September 19, 1929, in McDonough a daughter of the late John R. Shepler, Sr. and Mary Howell Shepler. On June 25, 1949, in Oxford
she married William “Bill” Fowlston, who passed away on November 2, 2009.
She is survived by her children; Thomas and Janice Fowlston of Hershey, PA and Terri and Frank Branson III, of Surfside Beach, SC; her grandchildren, Chase and Dani Fowlston, Lindsay and Michael Anthony, Frank “Will” Branson IV, and Cole Branson: her great grandchildren, Bree and Ben Anthony and Madex Fowlston; her brothers, John Shepler, Jr. and Sandra, and Milton Shepler and Linda; brother and sisters in law, Jeanette Biermann, Esther Fowlston, and David and Linda Fowlston. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was also predeceased by her son, William Fowlston and daughter, Karen Fowlston.
Bridget was a graduate of Oxford Academy and Central School, Class of 1947. She worked for her father as office manager from 1947 until 1965. She then became Business Manager for Oxford Academy and Central School until she retired in 1993. She and her husband were instrumental with the founding of the Chenango County ARC, where she served on the board and as President. Always active in her community, she helped both the band boosters and athletic boosters. She helped raise money for the lights and scoreboard on the high school fields. She and her family enjoyed many trips in their motorhome. She also helped judging Central New York Firemen’s Association parades. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Oxford and Church of the Resurrection in Surfside Beach, SC. She was a member of the Chenango County School Business Officials Assn. and the NYS School Business Officials Assn.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 4, 2022, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 34 Main St., Oxford where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM with Rev. David Hanselman officiating. Private burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford. At Bridget’s request, please wear bright colors and be happy, also please omit flowers and consider a donation to: Chenango County ARC, 17 Midland Drive, Norwich, NY 13815 or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 34 Main St., Oxford, NY 13830. A luncheon will follow the service in the church Parish Hall.
