Richard Michael Cobb
Richard Michael Cobb, 53, of Oxford, passed away unexpectedly on July 30. 2023 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.
He was born on May 5, 1970, in Norwich. He married the love of his life, Tamara Chase on June 25, 1989, in the First Baptist Church of Norwich, who survives.
Along with his wife Tamara, he is survived by his parents, Michael and Roxanne Cobb; his children, Christopher and wife, Shirley Cobb, and Lauren Cobb and Enrique Gonzalez; his grandson, Cameron Cobb; his brothers, Brett and wife, Shellie Cobb, and Brian Cobb; his mother-in-law, Linda Chase; his brothers in law, Scott and Kathie Chase and Shawn Chase; and nephew, Elias Cobb and niece, Kinsey and Jeff Woodard. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Marvin Chase and nephew, Joshua Chase.
Rick grew up in Oxford and graduated from Oxford Academy and Central School, Class of 1988. He held several jobs before starting his law enforcement career with the Chenango County Sheriff’s Department in May of 1998. He retired as a Lieutenant in May of 2018. He loved his law enforcement family and wore his badge on his heart. Following his retirement, he went to work for New York Central Mutual Insurance, where he currently was Auto Examiner Supervisor.
His career led to him appearing on Dateline, Forensic Files and Discovery ID. He was also popular on websleuth website.
He was a former member of the Oxford Fire Department, starting with the Explore Post. He volunteered to go to Northern New York during the Ice Storm of 1998. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, and scuba diving. A great family man, he enjoyed family camping and fishing trips, and especially spending time with his grandson Cameron.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, starting at Noon at the Oxford Fire Department, 20 Main St., Oxford, NY. A time of remembrance will be held at 1:00 PM, with the celebration continuing afterwards. Rick would not want this to be a solemn event, please share your funny stories and remembrances.
