Carol Ruth Thompson


SHERBURNE – Carol Ruth Thompson, 92, of The Pines in South Burlington, Vt., and a former longtime resident of Sherburne, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, with her daughter and grandchildren at her side at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
She was born in German on June 28, 1917, the fifth of siz children of Lewis and Delilah (Dyer) Carrier.
On Aug. 3, 1940, Carol married John J. Thompson in Norwich. Mr. Thompson predeceased her on Dec. 29, 2001.
She lived her life in Chenango County, until she moved to Vermont in 2006 to be closer to her daughter.
Carol was proficient at crafts, a longtime member of the Chenango County Home Bureau and of the North Norwich Garden Club. She especially enjoyed her many years at Bradley Brook Reservoir and the numerous friends she and John had at the lake. She was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Tent 71.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Shelden and her companion, Robert Russo, of Essex Jct., Vt.; her grandchildren, Brian Shelden of Austin, Texas, Andrew Shelden and his wife, Marcy and their son Ethan of Jericho, Vt., Phoebe Harbour and her husband, Thad, and their sons Cody and TJ of Austin, Texas, and Bridget Shelden and her son Christian of Gonzales, La. She was predeceased by her siblings, Violet Biviano, Ulah Osterberg, Ruby Ring, William Carrier and Pat Carrier.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. John Vianney Catholic Church, South Burlington. Graveside services and burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Norwich, and will be announced at a later date. There will be no visiting hours.
Arrangements are in the care of the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service, Mountain View chapel, 68 Pinecrest Drive, Essex Jct, VT.
