SMYRNA – Brent A. Barry, “Butch,” 65, of Smyrna, passed away Tuesday evening, May 11, 2010 at his home in German Hollow.
Butch was born in June of 1944 in McDonough, the son of Victor and Doris Jackson Barry. Raised by his grandparents, Philip and Pearl Jackson, he grew up in the McDonough and Oxford area and attended the Oxford schools. Over the years he has lived in Missouri, Virginia and Oklahoma, working road and piping construction in each of these areas. In 1990, Butch moved back to the area making his home in German Hollow and on Oct. 6, 2001 at his home, he married Betsy Whaley.
Butch was an avid Harley motorcycle fan and enjoyed anything that had to do with the bikes. He was known to be “a little rough around the edges,” but had a heart of gold and enjoyed his family. Besides his love of Harleys, he enjoyed his horses, German shepherd dogs and eagles. He was also a great fan of John Wayne.
Butch is survived by his wife Betsy of Smyrna; his children: Brent A. Barry of Smyrna, Barbara (William) Sabines of Oxford, Debora (Mike) Wiggins of Plymouth and Brian (Christina) Barry of Oklahoma; his step-children Cody Fairbanks of New Berlin, Rhonda Fairbanks of Smyrna and Zachary Fairbanks, also of New Berlin. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his son, Bruce Barry.
