Clarence Finch
OXFORD – Clarence H. “Tobey” Finch, 93, of Oxford, passed away on May 18, 2010 at the New York State Veterans’ Home, Oxford.
He was born on April 7, 1917 in Port Crane, a son of the late Andrew and Flora (Jones) Finch. On April 27, 1945, he married Marjorie Wood, who passed away on Dec. 5, 1995.
He is survived by his children, Gloria and Allen Case of Wells Bridge, Sandra Downey Manwarren of Norwich, and Spock Finch of Norwich; his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jody (Dwyer) and Robert Fitch and children Holli, Sarah, and Robert, Joel Dwyer and friend Kathleen of Liverpool, Jeff Downey and children, Jeffrey, Stefanie, Sadie, Kaylee, and Billie Jo, Kyle and Tracy Downey of Norwich, and children, Amber, Briannah, Kurt, and Job, Tammy Roach and companion Shawn and children, TJ, Joshua, Tyler, Jadyn, Neveah, Shawn, and Dominic and great great granddaughter, Kyla; his sisters, Freda and Harry Mudge of Norwich, and Thelma and Paul Morrow of Shippensburg, Pa.; and his brother Jack Lawton and friend Dolores of Norwich. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his brothers, Floyd Finch, George Finch and his sister, Joyce Gould.
Tobey was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the European and African Theaters. He was a member of Fort Hill Post #376, American Legion. He attended the Oxford Senior Center and the Brightman Senior Center in Greene. He retired from the New York State Department of Transportation in 1973. He enjoyed fishing, walking and giving hugs. He was also predeceased by his favorite dog Heidi.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford with the Rev. John Martin, pastor of the Oxford United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford on Saturday from 4-7 p.m.
