NORWICH – Please join family and friends as they gather to honor the memory of Leonard A. Peterson at noon on Saturday, June 19 at the home of his daughter Leslie: 34 Newton Ave. Norwich. Len “Pete” passed away on Oct. 22, 2009 at his home in Haines City, Fla. at the age of 81.
Leonard was born in Huntington Bay on Now. 16 1927, the son of Albin and Inez Revere Peterson. He grew up in Brooklyn, with his big brother Revere Peterson and joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 as soon as he turned 17. A week later, he lost his only brother in a battle in Germany.
Together with his parents, Leonard moved to Morris in 1948, where he met and married Marion “Nan” Harris in 1950.
He was proud to have been a member of the NYS Police for 22 years, retiring in 1975 as an investigator. Len and Nan then moved to Florida where he worked as the head of security at Barnum and Bailey’s Circus World, later Boardwalk and Baseball, until 1990. He was an avid golfer and carpenter in his spare time, and loved Frank Sinatra.
Len leaves behind his wife Nan, his son Chris and Pam Peterson, his daughters Karen and Gary Shafer, Leslie and Vince Mirabito, and Janet Pringle. He is also survived by grandchildren Mary and Andrea Shafer, Peter Mirabito and wife Maureen, Laura Mirabito, Eric, Kyle and Carol Peterson, Rachel, Tess and Matthew Pringle, and great-granddaughters Ava and Anna Mirabito.
