It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Barbara Squires Albertina, who left us on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the age of 83, while in Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton, N.Y. She is the daughter of Percy Alton Squires and Fannie Walker Squires.
Our mother, Barbara, will always be remembered by her unique sense of humor. She was always quick with a joke that would always put a smile on your face. Mom, your “cannibal” jokes will live on forever. Humor was one of her finest traits! Our Mom loved so many simple things in life. She was an avid reader, sometimes reading 3-4 books a week. She loved Elvis, she loved playing cards with her family, she enjoyed playing the slot machines at the casino, and we can’t forget about her game shows either. We would sit and watch them for hours and she would always win. Our Mom was one of a kind and will be so greatly missed by her family. She will live on in our hearts forever.
Barbara is survived by her two loving daughters, Deborah J. and her husband Michael E. Bishop residing in Norwich, N.Y. and Sharon A. Parker and her partner in life Hubert C. Neer, who also reside in Norwich, N.Y. She was predeceased by her beloved son Derrick J. Slater in 2019. Barbara has six grandchildren, Amanda and Christina Stiles, Eric and Christopher Bishop, Pamela Nichols and James Parker, as well as 13 great-grandchildren. Barbara has two surviving sisters, Nancy Simpson Squires of Northville, N.Y. and Norma Heald Squires of Norwich, N.Y. She was predeceased by her other siblings, Flora Frink Squires, Percy Squires, Shirley Earle Squires, David Squires, and Claude Squires. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and friends who will miss her dearly.
A special thank you to the staff at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton, N.Y. for the superb quality of care our mom was given.
At the request of Barbara and her family there will be no formal services.
