NORWICH – Genevieve Mary (Zeno) Risley, 93, of Vestal, formerly of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 8, 2010.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Woodrow (Woody) in 1988, and her sister Marie Evans in 1999. She is survived by a daughter, Marjorie Risley of Houston, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, David and Joanne Risley of Vestal; an adopted daughter, Carol Stevens of Houston, Texas; granddaughter Dawn Lynn (Brendan) Culhane of Aurora, Colo.; grandson, John Risley and Jessie Figler of Tucson, Ariz.; two great-grandchildren, Rachel Risley of Tucson, Ariz. and Rian Dillon Culhane of Aurora, Colo.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was born on Dec. 7, 1916 in Plymouth, Michigan. She was the daughter of Levi and Catherine Jefts Zeno. On June 9, 1941 at St. Paul’s Church in Norwich, she married Woodrow (Woody) Risley. She graduated from Tupper Lake High School in Tupper Lake, and ATC College at Canton, in 1937. Following graduation she trained for a dietitian at Yonkers General Hospital in Yonkers, and Deaconess Hospital in Buffalo. She worked as a dietitian at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown for two years. She moved to Norwich after her marriage. She worked as dietitian at Chenango Memorial Hospital. She also worked as School Lunch Manager for the Norwich City Schools for twenty-four years, retiring in October 1980. Genevieve moved from Norwich to Vestal and resided at Castle Gardens Living Center, and was a resident at the Vestal Nursing Center for the last year and a half.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Vestal Nursing Center for all their kindness to Genevieve.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Norwich, and was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society as well.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday at 11a.m. at Our Lady Of Sorrows Church, 157 Clark St. in Vestal.
The family will receive friends at Church from 10a.m. until Mass time at 11a.m.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Norwich at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Genevieve’s memory may be made to: Our Lady of Sorrows Church building fund in Vestal, or to the charity of ones choice. Arrangements are by The Allen Memorial Home, Inc. Endicott.
