Lois Parker


OXFORD – Lois (Ma) Huttleston Parker, 94, of Oxford, formerly of Smithville Flats, having loved life and living it to the fullest, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2010 at Lourdes Hospital.
She was born on Nov. 28, 1915 in Pharsalia, a daughter of the late Henry and Lossie Gates. She was predeceased by her husbands, Linn Huttleston and John Parker; her brother, John Gates; and her sisters, Jennie Cook and Marian Root.
Surviving their beloved mother are, Judy Lucier and husband, Nelson of McDonough, Donna Huttleston and husband Gary Gofgosky of Whitney Point, Gary Huttleston and wife, Carol of Smithville Flats, Richard Huttleston and wife, Marian of Endicott. Lois is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews with whom she spent many good times.
Lois grew up on a farm and learned to milk at an early age, becoming a championship milker for Chenango County. She loved basketball and was named to the All Star teams for South New Berlin and Greene schools. She was a respected cook and baker in the area. Her pies, donuts, cookies and biscuits were not only enjoyed by her family, but by many seeking to buy them. She held many jobs in her lifetime; she retired from Chenango Memorial Hospital Snack Bar. Even though she retired, she was still catering meals to Senior Housing facilities and other functions. She loved to travel and had visited many states with her children. She always said, “Don’t ask me to go if you don’t want me to.” She loved playing cards and going to the casinos.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Smithville Flats Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Martin, pastor of the Oxford United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene.
Friends may call at the Smithville Flats Presbyterian Church on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Genegantslet Fire Co., PO Box 151, Smithville Flats, NY 13841.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kennedy Funeral Home, 21 North Chenango St., Greene.
