Jane Fowlston
NORWICH – Jane Elizabeth Champion Fowlston nee Elva Maryland Irwin, 72, of Thompson Road, Norwich, passed away at her home on Oct. 31, 2006.
She was born on Sept.r 11, 1934 in Sherburne. On Dec. 31, 1983 she married Robert Fowlston, who survives.
Besides her loving husband, Robert, of Norwich she is survived by her children, Linda Fowlston of New Berlin, Althea Eiholzer of New Berlin, Tim and Sandy Fowlston of Oxford; Brenda and Ted Schneble of Chesterfield, Va., Mary Jane and Randy Alger of Greene, and Greg Badger of Greene; her grandchildren, Steve Pepper, Neah Pepper, Clint Fowlston, Jack Fowlston, Kate Fowlston, Meg Emma Fowlston, Garrett Eiholzer, Jenna Eiholzer, Stephanie Alger, Kate Alger, Jared Alger, Steven Badger, and Kelly Badger; and her great grandchildren, Tyler Pepper, Sara Pepper and Andrew Pepper; her brothers, Richard Stott of Venice, Fla., William Irwin of Sherburne Four Corners, and Ken Irwin of Portageville, NY, and her sister, Millie White of Earlville.
Jane graduated from Greene Central School and attended State University of New York, North Country Community College, Rutgers University and Marywood College. She was employed as a bookkeeper in the First National Bank in Greene, Chenango Memorial Hospital and New Horizons at Binghamton General Hospital. The Caron Foundation in Westfield, Pa. also employed her as a therapist. She was an American Red Cross volunteer, helping in nursing homes and was chair for fire disasters in Chenango County. She served on the Greene Planning Board. She was a member of Zion Episcopal Church in Greene and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Oxford. She was a church schoolteacher, former treasurer of her church, sang in the choir, president of the Church Women and served on the Altar Guild. She served on the Chenango County Traffic Safety and the Chenango County Drug and Alcohol Council. She was a former Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She established and facilitated a grief and therapy group in Inlet, NY. She and her husband Bob established a bed and breakfast business in Inlet, in the Adirondack Mountains, which they ran for 10 years, until their retirement in 1996. They then settled in Norwich.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Oxford with the Rev. Michael Tan Creti, rector, officiating. Burial will follow in Warn Ten Broeck Cemetery, Oxford.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.
