Marjorie Shaheen

NORWICH – Marjorie Ames Shaheen, 89, passed away on July 1, 2010 in Boise, Idaho. She had been lovingly cared for by her son and daughter-in-law during a valiant battle with cancer. Marjorie was born May 18, 1921 in Norwich, and she was the daughter of Clarence and Vera (Ringe) Ames. She was a graduate of Norwich High School.
On Dec. 4, 1941 she married Jim Dougherty. They resided in Norwich raising their two children, Connie and Jay. Marjorie worked for the Carol Ann Shop in the sportswear department for many years. She also volunteered with the Chenango Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Her husband Jim died in August 1971.
In February 1973, Marjorie married Louis Shaheen in Norwich. In 1974 they moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida where they enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends in their home on the inter-coastal waterway. Her husband Louie died Nov. 27, 1995. While living in Florida, Marjorie discovered her love and talent for oil painting. Her works now reside in the homes of family and friends. She also became passionate about saving manatees as they were often seen in the waters off of her backyard dock. Marjorie truly loved living in Florida, but due to failing health she moved to Cape Cod in 2007 to be closer to her daughter and family. In November 2009, she relocated to Boise to spend time with her son and his family.
Marjorie is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Leon Carver of Hemet, California. She is also survived by her daughter Connie and husband Jim of Cape Cod, Mass., her son Jay and his wife Debi of Eagle, Idaho, and stepchildren, Lou Shaheen Jr. and Ann Shaheen. In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren: Jennifer Powell of Mass., Tod Preston of Va., Matthew Dougherty of Ore., Jamie Martin of Wash., and Allie and Jeremy Shaheen of N.C.. She felt very fortunate to have been able to spend time with her five great granddaughters: Casey and Carly Powell, and Payton, Avery and Kendal Martin.
There will not be a public service as the family will gather at a later date in Florida for a private memorial. A heartfelt thank you to Kellie, Karen, Mandy, and Garrett of Heart ‘N Home Hospice & Palliative Care of Meridian, Idaho.
