ROBERT OSBORNE
OXFORD – Robert C. Osborne, 86, of Oxford, formerly of Norwich, passed away on Nov. 2, 2006 at the NYS Veterans’ Home, Oxford.
He was born on Nov. 10, 1919 in Norwich the son of the late Linn and Emma (Bush) Osborne. On Dec. 30, 1942 he married Julia Youngs, who passed away on Oct. 26, 1991.
His children, Gary Osborne of Homosassa, Fla., and Patty and Dan Smithgall of Oxford; his grandson, Trevor Smithgall of Oxford; his brother, Donald Osborne of Jacksonville, Fla. and his sisters, Emma Reese of Preston and Betty Ann Miller of Norwich, survive him. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served operating large cannons. He loved horses and doing repair work for many area farmers. He operated his own construction business for many years, as well as working for the Soil and Water Conservation Service, Degorge Plumbing, Gorton Construction and Bundy Concrete.
He also served the Norwich Police Department.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford Fire Department Emergency Squad, PO Box 172, Oxford, NY 13830.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford.
