GEORGETOWN – Kenneth D. Eaton, 90, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 19, 2010 at Oneida Healthcare Center, surrounded by his family.
He was born in DeRuyter on Aug. 19, 1919, one of eleven children of Walter and Florence Holl Eaton and resided in Georgetown his entire life. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving his country with full honor. He was in several military campaigns, including North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Europe, where he received combat medals. He was united in marriage to Margaret “Maude” Aicken Eaton until her death in 2004. Ken was an excellent auto mechanic, who worked for Allen & Wood in DeRuyter, Morrisville Motors, and the Madison County Highway Department in Morrisville,
Ken was a secretary and fire chief for the Georgetown Fire Department, and a member of the New Woodstock American Legion Post #1572 for 63 years. He loved gardening and was also well known for his culinary skills.
Surviving are his children, Kenneth W. and Delia Eaton of Oneida; David Eaton and his companion, Rose Worley of Norwich; Phyllis and Les Enslow of Vernon Center; and his heart born daughter, Roberta Chapin of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Grace Morelock, Rachel (Enslow) Peabody, Ryan Enslow and Heather Eaton; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dawn Eaton of Cazenovia; a brother-in-law, Frank Preston of DeRuyter; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers, Ransom, Theodore, Walter, Donald and Carl, and five sisters, Mabel, Hildagard, Florence, Ella and Ruth.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24 at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisville, followed by burial with military honors in the Sheds Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 p.m.
