Marcel Morey
EARLVILLE – Marcel F. Morey, 82, an Earlville resident since his birth on April 17, 1928, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the evening hours of July 20, 2010 at the Lutheran Home in Clinton, where he spent the last two years of his life in an assisted living apartment. His daughters, grand-children, great-grand daughter, nephew Stephen Reese and beloved dog and companion Rascal were with him to the end – so he was surrounded with love.
He worked for Standard Brands, Bob’s Express, Victory Markets and a few other companies throughout New York State until he was in his early 60s. He played the trombone in high school and was an avid bowler and fishermen for many years.
He is survived by his three daughters, Cindy Morey and her partner Susan Bertelsen, of California, Marcia Morey-Watson and Steve Watson of Niles, MI and Gail and Pat Lawrence of Sherburne. He had five wonderful grand-children who adored him, Jessica and Mike Mitchell, Joshua Trudeau and Sarah Mathers, Anthony and Rebecca Lawrence, Nicole and Dave Franklin, and four great-grandchildren, Hailee Mitchell, Cody and Emily Lawrence and Alivia Franklin.
Marcel (Zip) will forever be remembered as a loving Dad and Grandpa. He took his children on many camping trips, taught us about jazz and his love for music and was always there when we needed him. When our dear mother Marie became ill with Alzheimer’s disease, our Dad became her 24-hour care giver; her nurse, cook, house cleaner and medical assistant, keeping her at home as long as he could for many years. He will be missed by all.
Viewing hours will be held on Saturday at the Burgess and Tedesco Funeral Homes Inc., 3 Preston St., Earlville, from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. and burial in he Earlville cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 441 West Kirkpatrick Street, Syracuse, NY 13204.
The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to the wonderful staff at the Lutheran Home in Clinton, who welcomed our Dad into their family and made him laugh, had great conversations with him and became his constant companions. Most notably, Michele Kohl, Sheila Vincent, Donna Boshart, Chris Humphrey, Tanya Skermont, Adela Riveanovic, Wendy Coon and many others on their team. We’d also like to send our many thanks to the nurses in the Rehab Center (Gordon wing) at the Lutheran Home who honored our Father’s wishes, brought us food and provided excellent medical care and advice, most notably, Diana Carnahan, Sharon Rosato, Rosemarie Green and Social worker Roxanne Barret and her darling puppy, Bailey, who made us all smile!
