SMITHVILLE FLATS – Ora Carhart, 96, of Smithville Flats, formerly of Oxford, passed away on July 19, 2010 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.
She was born on Aug. 26, 1913 in Norwich, a daughter of the late Guy and Pansy (Whitmore) Lawton. She was married to Earl Carhart, who passed away in 1970.
She is survived by her children, John and Peggy Sue Carhart of Oxford, Laura Jean and Dan Downey of Oxford and Eleanor and Charlie Carr of Smithville Center. Many grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren also survive. She was predeceased by her children, Duane (Tom) Carhart, Everett Carhart, Doris Carhart and Robert Carhart.
Ora had worked for Champion Products in Norwich for several years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Riverview Cemetery, Oxford with the Rev. Allen C. Lang, pastor of the United Church of Oxford officiating. There will be a celebration of Ora’s life on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the home of Ben and Bev Button, 156 Windham Road, Greene.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford.
