WEST MONROE – Deegan Matthew Funke, 6, of West Monroe, passed away peacefully on Wednesday after a 10 1/2 month battle with cancer.
Deegan was born on Nov. 6, 2003. His first name was chosen by his father, Kyle Funke, naming him after freestyle motorcross star, Brian Deegan. Joy Funke, Deegan’s mother, chose his middle name from the bible. The story of how his dad came by his name was one of Deegan’s favorite stories to tell and Deegan shared his father’s love of extreme sports entertainment.
Deegan was able to travel to Disney World in Florida as his “Make-A-Wish” was granted. He flew like a champ and enjoyed every minute of his time at Disney, especially the water parks and Sea World.
It is impossible to thank all of the individuals who have given so generously of time, love, prayers, and gifts. The Funke family says “Thank You All and God Bless.”
Deegan is survived by his parents Kyle and Joy Funke; brother Anthony Funke; maternal grandparents Terry and Gail Moomaw; and fraternal grandparents Harold and Betty Funke.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Central Square.
Contributions may be made to Friends of Deegan c/o First Baptist Church of Central Square, PO Box 476, Central Square, NY 13036 or the family would like if you could bring fresh cut flowers from your garden in a vase to decorate the sanctuary.
