SOUTH PLYMOUTH – Dealton E. Brown, “Chub,” “Del,” “Brownie,” 76, a life long resident of South Plymouth, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 14, 2010 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital with his family at his side.
Chub was born in South Plymouth in August of 1933, the son of Olin and Edna Hogencamp Brown. He attended school in Kirk and Norwich and was a 1951 graduate of Norwich High School. In October of 1954, he entered the United States Army, serving his country in Germany until his honorable discharge in October of 1956. On Nov. 4, 1956 in St. Albins, he married June Storch, who survives.
Chub was a life-long resident of South Plymouth, and had lived in the house where he was born all of his live, which has been in his family for over 80 years. In his early working career, Chub had worked for Ford Homes and the Town of Plymouth. For a period of 38 years, he was employed by Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals and its successors, retiring from P&G in August of 1995.
A family man at heart, Chub enjoyed spending time with his family. He could often be found taking a hike in the woods or riding his 4-wheeler around the family farm. In the winter months, he enjoyed snowmobiling and snowshoeing.
Chub is survived by his wife June of South Plymouth; his children Linda Powell-Owens and her husband John of Plymouth, James Brown of South New Berlin, Terri Giglinto of Keen and Laurie Meyers and her husband Donald of James Creek, Pa.; his 14 grandchildren: Kevin (Danya) Powell, Michael (Krystal) Powell, Jennifer (Timothy) McCarthy, Quinn Brown and his companion Tammy, Bill (Midori) Brown, Adam (Sarah) Brown, J.T. Giglinto, Ethan Giglinto, June (Patrick) Brown, Jamie (Derrick) Anderson, Jessica (Christopher) Shope, Jeanna Sabins, Jeffrey Sabins and Jaclynn Sabins. Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren, his brother Robert Brown and wife Kay of South Plymouth, his sister-in-law Leona Brown of South New Berlin and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Brown.
Funeral services for Chub will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Anderson, pastor of the Plymouth United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment with full military rites will follow in the Deer Pond Cemetery of North Pharsalia. Friends by call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11.
