NEW BERLIN – Charles Kelly Jr., 76, of New Berlin, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006 after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife Marie; his sons Keith, Brian, Chuck, Shawn, David and Michael, and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son George in 1991.
Charles was the Town of Columbus Supervisor for eight years, during which time he put into effect “911” in this area and established the recycling plan located in North Norwich. He took great interest in the management of the Town of Columbus and in establishing a well-planned budget for updating roads and equipment as well as making efforts in the county for proper budget allocations. He retired from the position due to his wife’s wishes after the loss of their son.
Charles also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955 during the Korean War.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 at St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne. Father Francis Case will officiate. The family will be receiving friends at their home following the service.
Donations in his name may be directed to St. Theresa’s Catholic Church of New Berlin, Chenango Area Hospice or Friends of Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital.
Arrangements are by the Dakin Funeral Home of New Berlin.
