NORWICH – Victor Montgomery Sr., 64, of Norwich and former long time resident of South New Berlin, passed away Saturday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2010 at his home in Norwich surrounded by his family.
Victor was born in Norwich in November of 1945, the son of George and Jerusha (Monroe) Montgomery. He spent his childhood years in the Plymouth and Norwich areas later moving with his family to the South New Berlin area and attended the Norwich schools. Following his education, Vic entered the United States Marines serving his country during the Vietnam War from 1965-1972. Over the years Vic had worked for the Norwich Knitting Mill, Bennett Ireland, Tracy Baking and had driven bus for the South New Berlin school district and CWS His main employment was with Reese-Marshall in Norwich, where he worked for a period of 25 years. Vic was a life member of VFW Post 2782 as well as a member of American Legion Post 189, both of Norwich.
On Nov. 27, 1965 in So. New Berlin he married Sandra (Sandy) Binelli who passed away Jan. 24, 1997 and on June 9, 2001 in Norwich, he married Judith (Judy) Mathers, who survives.
Besides his wife Judy, Vic is survived by his sons Victor (Kristi) Montgomery Jr. and Jeffery (Cathy) Montgomery all of South New Berlin, his step-children, Maximina Cruz, Laura Cruz both of Norwich, Stephanie LaFever of Sterling, Va., Michael Cruz, M.D. of Cincinnatti, Ohio and Jodi Taylor of Springfield, Va. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Shannon, Samantha, Cassandra, Jeffrey Jr., Zachary and Stephanie, 8 step grandchildren, his sisters, Arlene (Jim) Bevilacqua of Amblerville, Georgia (Roy) Stockwell of South New Berlin, Judy (Richard) Smith of Norwich, his brothers Henry (Sue) Montgomery of Morris and David (Fran) Montgomery also of Morris. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services for Vic will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Romeyn Kipp, pastor of the Holmesville Baptist Church. will officiate. Interment with full military rites will follow in the Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m.
