Helen (june) Gilroy
GREENE – Helen Elizabeth Gilroy, also known as June, died on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010.
She was born in Atlanta, Ga. to James A. and Mary Fitzgerald LaHatte on June 1, 1926. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, James A. Gilroy, Md.; and an infant son, James; and a brother, Joseph LaHatte.
She is survived by her nine children, Katherine Cusano and Phillip, James J. Gilroy III and Jane, Kevin M. Gilroy and Bridget, Eileen Gilroy Korpita, Mary Lake and Andrew, Anne Payne and Thomas, Jean Corday and Manuel, Jaime Schneider and Richard, Helen “Beth” Patry and John. She was grandmother to Quinn and Nikki Hanrahan, Kevin and Kim Hanrahan, Katherine Bridget and Mike Zahora, James and Jeanne Gilroy, Michael Gilroy, Margaret and Kevin Gilroy, Megan and Mary Katherine Korpita, Taylor and Morgan Payne, Philip and Emma Patry. She was great-grandmother to Cora Hanrahan, Piper and Presley Hanrahan, Ethan and Nicole Zahora, and Evyenia June Gilroy. June is also survived by her sister, Mary Pierozak, Novi, Mich.; and her brothers, James A. LaHatte and Nadine, New Zealand, and Charles and Kay LaHatte, Baltimore, Md. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
June was a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Nursing. She was a charter member of Women in Military Service. She was a member of the congregation of the Immaculate Conception Church in Greene. June did volunteer work for Lourdes Oncology, Chenango County Hospice and the American Cancer Society. June worked at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich. She also worked as a nurse beside her husband in his medical practice in Greene for a number of years. June had a deep love for her children, of whom she was very proud. She was grateful to them for their constant attention and inexhaustible thoughtfulness.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, Greene. Burial will be in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene. Friends of the family may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene, NY 13778.
