Jane Gabler


NORWICH – Jane Margaret Tiquin Gabler, 95, of North Plainfield, N.J., passed away Monday, Oct. 11, 2010 at the Greenbrook Manor Nursing Home in Greenbrook.
She was born in Sherburne, and had lived most of her life in North Plainfield. Her husband, Henry Edward, to whom she had been married to for 66 years, died in 2005 and her eldest grandchild, Anne Marie Henn in 1982. Jane attended St. Paul’s Elementary School in Norwich, graduataed in 1931 from the Norwich High School, then graduated from the College of New Rochelle in 1935 and earned her Master’s degree from Columbia University in English Literature in 1936. She was also a high school teacher and a social worker in Endicott.
Jane served as President of the Laurel League and was a member of the North Plainfield Woman’s Club, the American Association of University Women, the Plainfield BPOE Ladies Auxiliary, was active in local and New Jersey state politics and also was an election poll monitor. Jane was also a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in North Plainfield.
Jane is survived by her children Katherine A. Henn of Denville, H. Edward Gabler III of North Plainfield, Margaret E. King of Richmond, Va. and Mary T. Dennis of South Plainfield, a brother John Tiquin of Norwich, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jane will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from St. Paul’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
