Myra Markham
BEAVER MEADOW – Myra Oresta Norris Markham, 66, of Beaver Meadow, passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 24, 2010 at her home with her family by her side.
Myra was born in Oxford in November of 1943 the daughter of Roy Herbert and Marion Grover Norris. She grew up in the Oxford area where she attended the local schools and has made her home in the Oxford and Norwich area most of her life. A hard worker all of her life Myra has worked for the Chenango Memorial Hospital, Wal-Mart and the most recent was the New York State Veterans Home in their housekeeping dept. At one point of her working career she had driven tractor trailer cross country.
Myra was first and foremost a mother to her children. She was always there for them, giving and helping in any way she could and made a special effort to be with them for any special event. As her companion of fifteen years, Pete Gilbert, who she met on turn one at the Square Deal Motorcycle Racetrack, put it, she was “top-shelf.”
Myra is survived by her companion Gerald “Pete” Gilbert of Beaver Meadow, her children, Daniel Redenback of Alliance, Ohio, Julie (Howard) Thompson of Nineveh, Mary (Edward) Batsford of McDonough, Catherine (John) Murphy of New Berlin, Dawn Tiffany of North Norwich, Sarah Reilly of Norwich, Lisa Redenback of Norwich and Brian Redenback of North Pharsalia, her sisters, Patricia Eldred of Oxford, Maryln “Tootsie” (Allan) Christian of Fort Atkinson, Wis., Nancy Beckwith of Coventry and Linda (John) Daniels Middleton, Mass. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Louie, Adam and Harvey Redenback, April (Dan) Sherwood, Ashley and Myranda Batsford, Jesse Murphy, Holly (Joshua) Watson, Dennis Murphy, Kristine and Lance Tiffany, Nicole Rifanburg, Paul Lackos, S. Alexander Reilly, Kristopher, Lewis and Stephanie Petterelli, Cody Pendell and Bradley Walley, also her great grandchildren, Kolbey Redenback, Madison Murphy, Dalton Allen, Olivia Watson, Destiny Race, Trey Bates, Lyrik Brown, Payton Brown, Cayden Rifanburg and Bella Shepard. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Myra was predeceased by her sister Barbara Brigham, her brothers Gerald, Bruce, Charles and Frank Norris, her grandson Mathew C. Redenback and granddaughter Alisha Wallace.
Funeral services for Myra will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Leon Barrows, Myra’s brother-in-law, of McDonough, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery of Oxford.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-8 p.m.
