NORWICH – Ira L. Miller, 80, of Hale St., Norwich, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 7, 2006 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
The son of Lorenzo and Mable (Brown) Miller, Ira was born on May 27, 1926, in Oxford but moved to Norwich at an early age, attended the Norwich schools, and lived in Norwich for the rest of his years. Ira was a happy-go-lucky man who loved watching westerns and country western programs, enjoyed listening to Mel Tillis sing, and, despite the smile he always had on his face, had a bit of a stubborn streak. He was employed by the City of Norwich Water Department for a total of 39 years, retiring from the Water System on Sept. 1,1981. In Nov. of 1967, Ira married Margaret Bush Brazee Miller, who predeceased him on Jan. 5, 1991.
Ira is survived by his sisters: Mildred Shepard of Norwich, and Marion Church and husband Dudley of South New Berlin; and his brother, Raymond Miller of Elmira; and by his step-children: Agnes Manwarren of Plymouth, Beulah Parker of Norwich, Margaret Schoener and husband Jay of Mt. Upton, Joan Leech and husband Ed of Mt. Upton, Howard Brazee and wife Thelma of Beaver Meadow, and Vance Brazee of Oneida. Also surviving are 38 step-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his wife Margaret, Ira was predeceased by his sisters and brothers: Margaret Kelsey, Mable Wilbur, Florence Youngs, Barbara Beech, and Howard and Joe Miller; and by his step-daughter, June Youngs.
Funeral services for Ira will be held at 1 p.m. Friday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m.
