NORWICH – Mary L. Becker, 66, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 25, 2010 at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown with her family at her bedside.
Born Feb. 21, 1944, in Catskill, Mary was the daughter of Ralph and Inez (Bailey) Williams. She graduated from Hunter-Tannersville High School with the Class of 1962. On Sept. 22, 1963, in Lexington, she married Larry R. Becker, who survives. Mary worked for Victory Markets for over 25 years retiring in 1989 due to her health.
Mary was an active member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church. She was a past president and treasurer of the United Methodist Women, always ready to take charge of church luncheons and dinners, ensuring everyone was taken care of. When her health wouldn’t allow her to do this any longer, she remained active participating in any way she could. She was also very involved with the church’s Tuesday Night Soup & Sandwich Dinners. Mary also enjoyed playing golf and quilting.
In addition to her husband, Larry, of Norwich, Mary is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Sarah and Michael Stroh, of Norwich and Jolene and Henrik Ross, of Richmond, Vermont; a son, Larry O. Becker, of Stamford, Conn.; five grandchildren, Kristine, Taylor and Melissa Stroh, Noah Ross and Ryan Becker; two sisters, Elizabeth Hapeman and her husband Glenn, and Rose Williams, all of Lexington. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Mary was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Cheryl D. Becker.
