OXFORD – Katherine E. Place, 78, of Oxford, died unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010. 
She was predeceased by grandson Nicholas Place; great-grandson Zachary Page; brothers Charles and James Conpropst; and sister, Jean Pinney. 
She is survived by her husband of 58 years Robert Place; and children Richard and Martha Place, Oxford, Roberta Ryan, Boonville, Tredwell and Mary Place, Norwich, Patricia McNight, Goshen, Indiana, Michael and Renee Place, Oxford, Oliver and Debbie Place, Oxford, Linda Place, Chesapeak, Va., Edward Place and Emily Bahn, Oxford, Kathy Mullen, Oxford, Connie Place and Ken Kenville, Hubbardsville, Karen and Terry Norden, Napoleon, Ohio, Jennifer and Tim Davis, Oxford; 24 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Katherine graduated from Afton High School Class of 1949 with a college entrance diploma. She spent her life working on her farm and raising her family. She was a loving and devoted grandmother. 
Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene. Friends of the family may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Root Funeral Home. 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oxford Memorial Library, Fort Hill Park, Oxford, NY 13830.
