NORWICH – Frances D. Smith, 88, went to be with the Lord, Jan. 5, 2011 in the Bassett Hospital of Cooperstown.
Frances was born in Paterson, N.J. on May 21, 1922 the daughter of Anthony and Marcella Siderivitch Zabett. She was predeceased by her parents Anthony and Marcella, her husband Marvin S. Smith on Feb. 6, 2007 and her son Edward Cole. She is survived by her son Charles Davenport Sr. and daughter-in-law Cindy of Oxford, her step-son Edward Smith and daughter-in-law Amanda of Sidney and step-daughter Judy Conklin and son-in-law Fred of Hancock. Also surviving are her grandchildren Michael and Cheer Cole of Millmont, PA, Crystal and Jon Carr of Sherman, TX, Charles Davenport Jr. and Lynn Rheinheimer of Oxford, Nick Cole of Norwich, Shawn Cole of Sherburne and Edward Cole Jr. of So. Carolina, two great grandchildren Alyssa and Calob Davenport of Oxford.
Frances graduated from Greeneville High School in Greeneville. She worked for many years at the New Berlin Clarinet factory and also had worked for Automecha in Oxford from which she retired. In her later years she worked as a Senior Companion for the Broome Developmental Center. Frances was a caring and much loved respite worker for many handicapped children in the community. She was a lover of the great outdoors and spent many hours with her husband and family hunting, fishing and camping.
Frances will be dearly missed by her beloved Chi Chi.
Memorial services for Frances will be held at noon Tuesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Neil Bendixen, Pastor of the Free Methodist Church of Norwich will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at Noon.
