OXFORD – Dorothy K. West, 75, of Oxford, passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 15, 2011, in the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
The daughter of Walter and Stella Padakowski Kalicicki, Dorothy was born in Bradock, Pa. in February of 1935 and relocated with her family to the Sidney area at an early age. Her 30-plus years as an inspector with the Norwich Shoe Company ended when they closed, and Dorothy finished her working years with the New York Central Insurance Company in Sherburne. She was an easy-going lady for the most part, unless you stepped on her toes or her children’s. At leisure, she enjoyed watching television and working on crafts, particularly latch-hook.
Dorothy is survived by her children and their spouses: Walter Gary and Martha West of Oxford, Raymond and Cynthia West III of New Hartford, Nancy Button of Oxford, and John West of Norwich; by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving is her friend of over 40 years, Doris Ashcraft. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond West.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas Ward, pastor of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Oxford, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Prospect Hill Cemetery of Sidney. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m.
